The BLIND SIDE is based on the true story of NFL star Michael Oher of the Baltimore Ravens.   Sandra Bullock did great on her role that earned her best actress for the Golden Glove, but the said part was originally offered to Julia Roberts. Quinton Aaron, his first lead role plays the part of Michael Oher in the film, although he  has previously appeared in Be Kind Rewind and US TV show Law & Order.  The movie BLIND SIDE is a very touching story about football and family.  A family that not only refers to that of biological but it can be a friend, a teacher, a teammates, an officemates, a neighbor or even a person came from a different race, status, culture or have a different beliefs.

I bet you should watch this movie, it is so good it really touched my heart and I know it would touch yours as well… Everyone  of us has a weakness, a soft spot, downside and drawback.  Well, our family is the one who can cover for us, they will take care of us and the one who will protect us from our BLIND SIDE to help us navigate though our map and reach our destinations and goals in life.

Battle-worn Filipino boxing veteran Gerry Peñalosa suffered a 12-round split decision loss to former world champion Eric Morel in their fight for the interim WBO Bantamweight crown Saturday at the Las Vegas Hilton (Sunday in Manila).

Peñalosa suffered a cut over the left eye from two accidental head clashes in the sixth round.  Despite being bloodied however,  Peñalosa fought bravely on and pressed the action until the final bell.  However, two judges ruled the fight in favor of Morel, 116-112 and 115-113 while the third judge awarded Peñalosa the third card at 115-113. With the win, Morel also earned the right to fight for the WBO Bantamweight crown.

37-year old Peñalosa suffered his 2^nd straight loss, the first one against Juan Manuel Lopez who won by TKO in the 10^th round.  It was still not clear, however, if Peñalosa is considering retirement from the boxing world.

In a stunning knockout win, Filipino boxer Nonito Donaire  stopped Mexican fighter Manuel Vargas

in only three rounds of the fight dubbed Latin Fury 13 / Pinoy Power 3” at the Hilton Hotel Las Vegas,  Saturday (Sunday, Manila).

Living up to the event’s name, Donaire again has proven Pinoy Power and total dominance in the boxing ring.  The Filipino Flash displayed both offensive and defensive mastery throughout the fight, opening a cut in Vasquez’s right eye in the 2^nd round and finishing him off with a powerful left uppercut to the chin in the third.  Donaire limited Vasquez to landing only 4 shots during the entire fight.

Nicknamed the Filipino Flash, Donaire (23-1, 15 KOs), the current interim WBA Super Flyweight champ, attained his 22^nd straight win.  Donaire will likely face former WBC champ Vic Darchinyan for his next fight, probably in June 2010.  Darchinyan suffered a major loss to Donaire during their first matchup via a 5^th round knockout.

Phil Harris, captain of the Cornelia Marie who was featured in Discovery Channel’s popular reality show “Deadliest Catch” has died – he was 53.

Phil Harries suffered a massive stroke on January 29 and was brought to Anchorage, Alaska for surgery. His sons, Josh and Jake who were also part of the Deadliest Catch reality show which depicts the crab fishing industry off the dangerous waters of Alaska said in their Cornelia Marie website:

“It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad – Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down.”

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival 2010 lineup is now out and Tokyo Police Club is one of them.

Tokyo Police Club is a Canadian indie rock band from Newmarket, Ontario. The band has singer and bassist  Dave Monks, keyboardist Graham Wright, guitarist Josh Hook, and drummer Greg Alsop.

Tokyo Police Club was formed in 2005 while playing for fun in a basement after the four had disbanded from a previous group called Suburbia. The band started to gain attention and played some small shows throughout the Toronto area.

With a buzz forming in Montreal, where the band stayed together in a single McGill University dorm room, Tokyo Police Club was asked to play in the city’s Pop Montreal festival, and soon after they signed with Toronto label Paper Bag Records.

Since their formation the band has appeared in numerous festivals. Notably, in 2006 they appeared at Edgefest  and the inaugural Osheaga Festival.

In 2007, they performed at the Coachella music festival in Indio, California, at Lollapalooza  in Chicago, at Bumbershoot in Seattle, at Glastonbury Festival and Reading and Leeds Festival in England, in 2008 at Roskilde Festival in Denmark and at Rock am Ring-Festival in Germany, and Street Scene in San Diego.

In the fall of 2008, Tokyo Police Club played on the last 6 weeks of Weezer’s Troublemaker Tour along with Angels and Airwaves.

Gmail Buzz or Google Buzz is a new addition to Google’s long list of social applications which allows users to interact with each other seamlessly with their Google powered-email, the Gmail.

Google Buzz enables Gmail users to get updates, including photos and other shared materials, from their e-mail contacts. “Followers” can be derived from frequent contacts and users have the flexibility to share these publicly or in private.

It also feature short messages ala Twitter-like function and allows Gmail users to post and share updates from their mobile phones.

In an effort to be ahead of the competition in the demanding and rapidly changing hardware market, IBM introduces its news server systems that can run power grids or process financial analytics – the Power7 server systems.

Power7 is comprised of integrated servers, software and storage and can be tailored depending on an enterprise’s requirements. Clients can choose between high-end Power 780 with TurboCore mode, Power 770 – a midrange server with up to 64 cores, the high-performance cluster Power 755 with 32 cores and the midmarket Power 750 Express.

The Power7 servers deliver twice the performance and four times the virtualization capabilities for the same price as the Power6 servers, all the while consuming half the energy, according to IBM.

Power 780′s TurboCore mode is a workload optimization feature that can have four cores running, and put the resources—including cache memory and memory bandwidth—of the other four dormant cores before those active ones. It also can increase the clock speed of those four active cores.

All Power7 systems supports MaxCore mode, which takes advantage of its increase in thread count. Other features of Power7 series include Intelligent Threads chips, a technology that can dynamically change the number of threads being run depending on the type of workloads.

Another feature is Active Memory Expansion, which utilizes memory compression technology to make the physical memory appear to be twice as large as it actually is, and can dynamically change the amount of compressed memory based on workload demands.

It was a battle between two UFC Hall of Famers. 46 year old Randy Couture controlled the entire fight against 45 year old Mark Coleman in what was dubbed as UFC 109: Relentless fight held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Randy Couture started the first round with good clean jabs to Coleman. Coleman returned with a right hand and hit Randy who backed up a bit. But Couture was as relentless as his punches, and landed a left hook on Coleman, and followed by knees to Coleman’s chin, two uppercuts and several more jabs.

Mark Coleman started the second round connecting a jab and a left hook on Couture. A takedown on Coleman after two right hand slams gave Randy Couture to control the fight, giving Coleman the losing rear-naked choke after exposing his back.

Coleman refused to give a tap but referee Steve Mazzagatti stopped the fight 1:09 in round two as Coleman was passing out. The UFC 109: Relentless is Randy Couture’s 3rd fight in seven months.

Investigators initially reported that the Cirrus 20 hit the tow line of the other aircraft which was pulling the glider. The glider was disconnected seconds before the two planes collided in mid-air and landed safely.

Witnesses said that immediately after the collision, the two planes were sent crashing to the ground in a fiery ball of flames.

Debris of the wreckage of the two planes were scattered in over 115 acres of  land area.
